Building Bridges, Not Walls

We are excited to announce that the first WOMAD Mexico will take place in the beautiful city of Morelia, 27th – 29th March 2020.

It is a true privilege to bring the WOMAD experience to the people of Mexico. We will have stages starring some of the best artists in the world, performing music from across the continents, leading workshops with children and adults and inviting our audience to learn more about the world we share through a global passion for Music, Arts and Dance.

Declared a Unesco Music City, as well as a Unesco World Heritage City for its art, architecture and home of Mexico’s oldest conservatory, Morelia is a beautiful place nestled midway between Mexico City and Guadalajara. The city will provide a fantastic setting for this free WOMAD festival which will fill the historic downtown area; building bridges to bring the world’s cultures together, not walls to keep them apart.

We are very grateful to President Raúl Morón Orozco and his team in Morelia for the invitation to present the festival and for the continued support of the people of Morelia for their belief in WOMAD and what it represents. Without this support, it would never have been possible.

“We are all delighted that WOMAD has been given a new home in Mexico, in Morelia. For many years I have been drawn to the powerful art films and music coming out of Mexico. It is such a rich culture to be invited into to begin a new WOMAD, as well as being one of my favourite countries to perform in. I am happy to see that our mission to bring the world to the world has landed safely in Morelia.” – Peter Gabriel
