World of Words
The World of Words, in the shade of the arboretum, celebrates all things spoken. Its diverse programming spreads over various venues, with a few surprises in between.
The World of Words Tent hosts authors, demonstrations, panel discussions and talks about anything and everything. This year we welcome chocolate maker extraordinaire Willie Harcourt Cooze, Buddhist monk Gelong Thubten, comedienne Jess Thom, the incredible work of Team UnLimbited, BBC Radio 4’s ‘Four Thought’, and our Book Club authors Anbara Salam, Chibundu Onuzo and Roma Tearne. There’s loads more in our words programme which runs from 10am till 6pm.
The Hip Yak Poetry Shack welcomes some of the country’s best spoken-word artists, both established and on the rise. This year we’re delighted to welcome Kei Miller, Dizraeli, Matt Harvey, Joelle Taylor, Anthony Anaxagorou and loads more. Once you’ve been inspired by their fabulous performances you can give it a go yourself in our Poetry Slam competition.
Human Books is where you can “check out” a person with our librarians for a half hour chat in a beautiful, relaxing yurt. All our human books have an interesting, inspiring or extraordinary real-life story to tell, and you’ll have over 45 “books” to choose from.
As well as a giant interactive crossword, a café, and a bookshop, be sure to pay the World of Words a visit this year.
