World of Words

The World of Words, in the shade of the arboretum, celebrates all things spoken.  Its diverse programming spreads over various venues, with a few surprises in between.

The World of Words Tent hosts authors, demonstrations, panel discussions and talks about anything and everything.  It’s the home of the WOMAD Book Club – a different book each day of the festival that you can read beforehand, and all our authors will sell and sign books after their sessions.  Our words programme runs from 10am till 6pm.

The Hip Yak Poetry Shack welcomes some of the country’s best spoken-word artists, both established and on the rise.  Once you’ve been inspired by their fabulous performances you can give it a go yourself in our Poetry Slam competition.

Human Books is where you can “check out” a person with our librarians for a half hour chat in a beautiful, relaxing yurt.  All our human books have an interesting, inspiring or extraordinary real-life story to tell, and you’ll have over 45 “books” to choose from.

Volunteer to be one of WOMAD’s Human Books at this year’s festival. You’ll need to be willing to do 2 x 2hr sessions in our beautiful yurts in the Arboretum. Apply here and see here for more detailed information

As well as a giant interactive crossword, a café, and a bookshop, be sure to pay the World of Words a visit this year.
