Thrilling Roots from French Canada

Acadie, the north-easterly tip of Canada is the site of a seminal musical heritage. The Cajun tradition, spread by Acadians throughout America, has had formative influence on countless subgenres, as diverse as Dancehall, Country and Zydeco. Vishtèn are today’s flagbearers for this unique musical tradition. Their take on Acadian sound though, looks forward as much as it looks back.

The core Vishtèn band are multi-instrumentalists, but swirling, buoyant fiddle is a constant. This particular trademark gives each song a clear Roots feel, but in vocals and accompaniment, the band frequently flirt with mainstream country and blues too. There is as much Alison Krauss here as there is Don Messer.

Having played at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and released five award-winning albums, Vishtèn are redefining the limits of French-Canadian folk. Their live show combines song-writing elegance with the dynamism of three experienced and truly passionate performers.
