Hailing from the village of El Carpio de Tajo in the autonomous Spanish region of Castile-La Mancha, folk quintet Vigüela name themselves after  the traditional ‘vihuela’, a Renaissance model of the guitar which  La Mancha’s most famous resident, the windmill-tilting Don Quixote, would have recognised.

Singing in the old language of rural central Spain, their music combines exquisite vocals and melismatic melodies accompanied by guitars, lute, mandolin and medieval fiddle, while the percussion comes not only from castanets, spoons and tambourines but also shearing scissors, mortars, bottles, kitchen pans and cowbells.

Their album Temperamento was released by the UK label Arc Music in 2016.
