Savina Yannatou
Classical forms, traditional polyphony and improvisational jazz

The Greek singer Savina Yannatou began performing with the group Primavera en Salonico more than twenty years ago and made a memorable WOMAD appearance in 1996.

Initially singing Sephardic and Mediterranean songs, she has expanded her repertoire to encompass a sound without borders or labels, poetically described as “rope-dancing on the chord which connects East and West and ancient and modern”.

Classical forms, traditional polyphony, improvisational jazz and songs which date back all the way to Byzantium feed in to the acoustic mix in which Yannatou’s voice weaves seamlessly or soars thrillingly, as the music dictates.
