It has become an annual WOMAD tradition to team pupils from nearby Malmesbury School and surrounding primaries in a project with professional musicians. This year students will spend a week prior to the festival preparing to perform with the Bristol-based global-folk band Sheelanagig, putting groove and stomping rhythms into a panoply of traditional and original European folk styles, dating from medieval times to the present day.

The five-piece Sheelanagig have become something of a West Country institution over the past decade, playing a bagful of jumping tunes on guitar, fiddle, double bass, drums and flute with both virtuosity and a mischievous wink in their eye.
