Exuberant Afro-centric festival faves
Some bands are just made for festivals. While they’d undoubtedly be dynamite in a small, claustrophobic club, they also reserve an ability to touch many souls in one go, to unite them, to thrill everyone. Sheffield’s K.O.G and the Zongo Brigade are one such outfit, an 18-legged groove machine with the power to fill the wide-open air. Afro-centric grooves – particularly those of a Ghanaian hue – are the order of the day as they serve a punchy, piquant stew simmering with Afrobeat, dancehall, reggae, jazz and dub. Flat-out on the funk and heavy on the horns, they also remember that the duty to entertain never went out of fashion. Exuberant and full-on, they know how to put on a show. These are nine Steel City sons who can be relied upon to put the pedal to the metal.
