In 1999 the African-American DJ and producer Mark Underwood made a two week trip to Puerto Rico. Nearly two decades later he’s still not returned home, having become a high priest in the local Santeria religion and changed his name to Otura Mun.

After several years spinning hip-hop in local clubs as DJ Nature and then touring with the reggae band Cultura Profetica, his latest project under the name Ifé finds him mixing traditional rumba and other island rhythms with electronic styles which draw on house and Jamaican dancehall. The result is a glorious otherworldly mash-up of ancient shamanisitic roots and cutting-edge modernity.
