Of all the Tuareg rock’n’roll acts that have emerged from the Sahara desert in the wake of the mighty Tinariwen, few rock harder than Omara “Bombino” Moctar.

Born in a nomadic encampment in Niger in 1980, he learnt to play guitar in exile in Algeria and by 2006 had made his first visit to America, where he record a desert blues version of the Stones’ classic Hey Negrita alongside Keith Richards.

Since then he’s released three solo albums, one of which was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. His most recent release Azel was critically hailed as his finest work to date.
