From Zeppelinesque blues stomps to folkloric Caribbean rhythms.
Bokanté means “exchange” in Creole, the language of lead vocalist Malika Tirolien when she was growing up on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe.
Now living in Montreal, she’s backed by in an eight-strong band drawn from four continents which includes Michael League, Chris McQueen and Bob Lanzetti from the jazz collective Snarky Puppy.
The music they make together is multi-lingual, multi-cultural, and multi-generational but totally connected, ranging from Zeppelinesque blues stomps to folkloric Caribbean rhythms.
They’ve just recorded a debut album, Strange Circles, which they proudly describe as “an urgent message of social awareness against the rising tide of exclusion and human indifference.”http://www.musicworksinternational.com/special-projects-index/bokante
